Our two year olds and pre-school provision

Within our free flow system, the children can choose the areas and rooms they want to play in. Within our self-registration system, children move freely from one room to another, in and outdoors. The children learn both through play, and structured activities. We offer a range of activities including music, cookery, dance, creative work, nature exploration, physical activity both in-doors and out, small-world play, and others, all of which allow children to develop independence, self-esteem and confidence.

We provide opportunities for our children to explore new learning experiences by stimulating their mind through individual attention and group participation. We sing songs, nursery rhymes and set the foundations for learning colours, numeracy, shapes and sizes as well as knowledge and understanding of the world we live in. At Pooh Corner we follow children’s lead and with gentle encouragement they gain confidence in all areas of their development.

Sleep time

After lunch the children who still have an afternoon nap can enjoy a tranquil environment in a quite room. Some classical music and the gentle encouragement from practitioners support children to relax and have a quality rest.

Potty training

Potty training is done in partnership with parents and carers. It is a celebration time for even very small achievements. We use stickers as rewards and lots of verbal praise and encouragement.

Getting ready for school

Our three and four year olds have a very special pre-school room which is part of our free flow provision. With a self-registration system, our children are free to play in the pre-school room throughout the day. Resources inspired on Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches are part of this provision. Children approach mathematic, literacy and other core subjects in a playful and calm environment which invites children to concentrate and explore new concepts and ideas which contribute to prepare our children for reception year at primary school.
